Golden Care Instant Grey

Golden Care Instant Grey Teak Protector has a few things going for it if applied correctly. The example picture on the actual bottle is terrible, but you can use this product to get a high-end, premium look if you follow out guide:

Premium application of Golden Care Instant Grey

Irrespectively of what timber project you are doing, prep-work will determine the final outcome.

Start by cleaning the timber, and not only the surface but a deep clean with a brightener and some serious scrubbing along the timber grain. Please read our Definitive Guide on how to Clean outdoor Furniture.

This picture is taken before the cleaning and staining with Instant Grey:

The trick when using Instant Grey is to apply the right amount. Too much will paint the surface grey, not enough will leave it too yellow and not protect the surface enough. The absolute best application tool is a sponge where you can apply exactly the right amount of pressure for an even application.

Golden Care’s product should always be shook for one minute upside down to ensure the content is thoroughly mixed.

FAQs about Golden Care Instant Grey

What timber can Golden care be used on?

Teak is optimal, but it works well on any hardwood that is used for outdoor furniture and vertical surfaces. It won’t work on a deck where you have foot traffic.

What does Golden Care instant Grey look like after application?

It depends on the underlying timber color and the thickness of application. Here are two colour examples on Teak timber with the correct thickness to highlight the timbergrain:

Do I need to apply Golden Care Teak Shield on top of Instant Grey?

We recommend that you always apply Golden care Teak Shield regardless of what colour Teak or Hardwood protector you use. It will create a moisture resistant layer to protect against water, food and drinks. In Australia we recommend that you reapply Golden Care Teak Shield every 3-6 months depending on if it beads or not when you do a water test.

A couple of things to keep in mind when staining:

  • Use drop sheets to protect the tiles, deck or grass

  • Test in an inconspicuous area (the underside) before starting. to ensure you like the colour

  • Remove all sawdust from the Teak outdoor furniture before staining

  • Pour the product into a lint free cloth or an absorbent sponge.

  • Don’t over-apply, better to start with a thin coat, but ensure coverage.

  • Always clean, sand and stain along the timber-grain.

  • When going across gaps, or edges avoid run-marks by not applying too much pressure.

  • You don’t have to do one board, slat at the time even if we typically enjoy doing it that way.

  • If you apply too much, wipe it off straight away. Work with an extra cloth in the other hand.

  • Follow the recommendations on the bottle in terms of drying time.

Golden Care Instant Grey can be stunning if done right.
