COSH LIVING TEAK OUTDOOR FURNITURE RESTORATION AND MAINTENANCE
Be proud of your beautiful Cosh Living outdoor furniture.
Teak doesn’t need maintenance from a structural perspective. However from an aesthetic point of view, we believe it looks stunning if you maintain the beautiful golden tones.
The best way to maintain it, is to delegate the maintenance, but should you want to DIY, here is a guide:
Cosh Living Teak Maintenance
Can I high pressure hose my Teak outdoor furniture?
No, and here are the reasons why:
You do not want to
fray the timber,
blast the soft grain off the Teak, leaving only hard grain and deep grooves.
push the internal teak oil out.
damage the joints or rope.
Technically you can soft pressure wash the teak, but we recommend leaving the pressure hose in the garage unless you are a trained professional.
Cleaning
Start by placing the furniture in a shaded area and bring out a bucket of warm soapy water or Teak Cleaner.
Hose the setting down for 5 minutes until it’s thoroughly wet deep inside the timber.
If you want to use a timber brightener you can roll it on. (Follow the instructions on the bottle)
Or apply the cleaning solution with a brush and scrub it with a soft bristle brush along the timber grain.
The better you scrub, the better outcome you will achieve, but intensity is better than hard pressure.
Once done scrubbing, rinse the furniture again for 5 minutes to ensure all cleaning products are out of the Teak.
Let the furniture dry in the sun. (We use a warehouse heater to enable us to dry the outdoor furniture quicker.)
Even if you rinse out the brightener for 5 minutes you can still get this white residue from the brightening process.
Use 120 - 240 grit sandpaper to remove that.
After the sanding is complete, the furniture should look like this: Clean, light and ready for protection.
Teak Protector
Protects against UV and the weathering of Teak
Use a big dropsheet to protect your area.
Sand the outdoor furniture lightly with fine grit sandpaper (120-240grit)
Remove the sawdust with a vacuum or leaf blower.
Stain the furniture with a sponge along the timber-grain. Have a cloth in the other hand to deal with run-marks or too thick application.
Let the Teak Protector dry.
Teak Shield
Protects against water and food stains
Teak Shield is transparent once dry and will not change the appearance.
Apply with a new sponge, ensure you get good coverage but don’t leave puddles.
Let dry and repeat at least two times.
Now you either have a beautiful teak setting or a royal stuff up depending on how well you followed instructions.
